
Dr. Bassem Kamar
Dr. Bassem Kamar is the Chief Economist of the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates (CBUAE) , in charge of the Research and Economic Analysis Department. Prior to joining the CBUAE, we served at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development as the Lead Economist in charge of the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean countries.

Previously, he was Economic Expert at the International Monetary Fund where he served for over twelve years in various capacities in Washington DC and in regional centers; assuming responsibilities of Senior Economist and Advisor. He was also a Professor of Economics and Econometrics at the International University of Monaco where he held the positions of Director of the Doctoral Program, and Director of Research. He is a visiting lecturer at several universities including NYU Abu Dhabi, the American University in Cairo, the University of Maryland College Park, LSE Cairo, AGDA Abu Dhabi, and the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis.

He is the author of numerous intellectual contributions and scientific publications, covering policies for implementing monetary and exchange rate regimes, enhancing debt sustainability, attracting foreign direct investments, stimulating small and medium enterprise growth, and strategies for creating employment. He holds a PhD in Economics and a Habilitation to Direct Research in International Finance.
